Paddle Trails

With all the water of the Pamlico Tar River Estuary system lapping at Washington's banks, there's plenty to paddling to be had.

Recently, over 300 miles of paddle trails were mapped in the Pamlico River basin around Washington. With these trails, you can explore small creeks and tributaries in search of an osprey…or maybe even an eagle. Or you can traverse the wide-open spaces of the Pamlico. No matter your skill level, you'll find a paddle trail to enjoy in Washington.

Kayak rentals are available convenient to the Runyon Creek Boat Ramp from Inner Banks Outfitters.

Goose Creek State Park also offers paddle trails and a kayak/canoe launch at Dinah's Landing.

The stunning waterfront in Washington's historic downtown is the jewel in our crown. On the waterfront you can see boats from near and far, the NC Estuarium, a children's park, and a boardwalk for quiet enjoyment.

For nature lovers, the waterfront boasts a variety of wildlife in their natural habitats, the Tar and Pamlico Rivers. Fishermen flock to the area, so if you're lucky you just might hear a fish tale or two.

As one of the gathering spots in Washington, the waterfront takes on a life of its own during large annual festivals like the Summer Festival and Smoke on the Water.
